Frequently asked questions
Clear answers before you enquire.
If anything remains unclear, call or email us. A short conversation is often the easiest way to decide whether the service may be suitable.
What can GT Family Care help with?
Companionship, sitting and social visits, agreed shopping and errands, accompaniment to appointments and outings, simple meal preparation, light practical day-to-day support, and planned babysitting enquiries for children aged 10+.
Do you provide personal care or medication support?
No. We do not help or directly supervise with washing, dressing, toileting, eating, drinking or other personal care. We also do not administer, prompt or supervise medication, lift or transfer people, or provide nursing, clinical or medical tasks.
Is GT Family Care registered with CQC?
No. GT Family Care’s adult services are limited to companionship and practical support and do not include personal care or other CQC-regulated activities. Babysitting enquiries are a separate service. We will not offer regulated activities unless and until the required registration is in place.
Who is the service for?
The service is for adults who would benefit from company or agreed practical support while remaining independent, and families seeking planned babysitting for a child aged 10 or over. We discuss every request individually.
Do you offer babysitting?
We welcome enquiries for planned babysitting in the child’s own home for children aged 10 and over. Availability, the proposed worker, safeguarding arrangements and price must all be confirmed before a booking is accepted. Personal care and medication support are not included.
Can a relative arrange support?
Yes. A family member or trusted person can make the initial enquiry. We still involve the person receiving support as fully as possible and respect their choices, privacy and consent.
Who will visit me?
We explain who is proposed for the visit before support starts. No worker is assigned until GT Family Care has completed its role-appropriate suitability process and the person has been briefed on the agreed arrangements.
Can you accompany me to an appointment?
Yes. We can provide company to agreed appointments and wait with you. This is companionship and practical support, not medical advocacy or clinical support.
Does appointment support include a car journey?
Not automatically. Accompaniment can be arranged using agreed transport. Vehicle transport by GT Family Care or an authorised worker is offered only where the arrangement and insurance have been confirmed, and any mileage or parking cost is explained first.
Which areas do you cover?
GT Family Care is based in Kingston upon Thames and serves nearby communities, including New Malden, Surbiton, Tolworth, Raynes Park and Worcester Park. Requests from other locations are considered individually, subject to travel distance and availability.
What happens after I enquire?
We have a brief conversation, check that the request fits our service, arrange a free consultation if appropriate, then confirm the support, price and written arrangements before any visit begins.
Is there a minimum booking?
Yes. The minimum visit is one hour.
Are evenings and weekends available?
Visits may be arranged during weekdays, evenings and weekends, subject to availability. GT Family Care is not an emergency or continuously monitored service.
What if my needs change?
Tell us as soon as possible. We will review whether the request remains within our service. If it does not, we will explain this honestly and suggest seeking a more suitable regulated or clinical provider where appropriate.
How do cancellations work?
The cancellation terms are provided before service begins. The current approach is no charge with at least 48 hours’ notice; where a late-cancelled slot cannot reasonably be reallocated, the charge may be up to the cost of the booked visit, with discretion for genuine emergencies or exceptional circumstances. There is no charge if GT Family Care cancels.
What should I do in an emergency?
GT Family Care is not an emergency service and messages are not monitored continuously. Call 999 if someone is in immediate danger or needs urgent emergency help. For urgent medical advice that is not an emergency, use NHS 111.
